Hair grows in a certain cycle – growing, resting, and dropping out. It is normal to shed some hair each day. Every 3 months, resting hair falls out and new hair starts to grow in its place. Some of us though, experience excessive hair loss.
Causes of hair problems
Most hair problems are caused by incorrect diet and stress. Of course, it could also be related to systemic diseases and the side effects of drugs taken. In women. pregnancy and menopause is another factor that causes hair fall. Excessive exposure to the sun, pollution, rainwater, and dust without proper protection makes the hair dry, brittle, and limp.

About 40 percent of women suffer hair loss during menopause. Levels of female hormones estrogen and progesterone fall during menopause.

Diet
Diet is very important to stop hair fall. What you eat could help induce hair growth. Carrot not only provides good nourishment for the eyes, but also for the hair. An overall balanced diet of lean proteins, fruits, vegetables, whole grains, and legumes is very good for healthy hair.
A fall in the iron levels leads to falling hair and also a deterioration in the quality of the hair. An iron-rich diet helps. Have more green vegetables, beetroots, and prunes to get that iron.
A balanced amount of vitamins and minerals such as iron, zinc, and B group vitamins helps in maintaining healthy hair. Oats and green peas are rich in zinc, iron, and other essential vitamins.
The egg is loaded with essential nutrients such as proteins, B12, and iron in large amounts. It is also a good source of Vitamin B7 which helps fight hair loss.
Low-fat dairy products like skim milk and yogurt are great sources of calcium, an important mineral for hair growth. They also contain whey and casein, two high-quality protein sources.
Natural home remedies to treat hair loss
Whatever the cause of the hair loss, natural cures are the best as they do not cause any harm to the hair.
- Boil a handful of neem leaves in a little water. Simmer for 4-5 minutes. Use it after it cools, as a rinse after washing hair with a soapnut decoction. This prevents dandruff as well as hair loss.
- Heat a cupful of coconut oil and fry 8 to 10 flowers of hibiscus rosa-sinensis in it. Cool, filter and use as hair oil.
- Pure almond oil is also very good for the scalp and prevents hair loss.
- Massage the scalp with warm coconut oil twice a week and wrap a hot damp towel around the head. Wash after half an hour with soapnut decoction. More on the medicinal benefits of coconut oil
- Take 250 grams of mustard oil and sixty grams of Henna leaves and boil them till the leaves get totally cooked, but not burnt. Filter the oil and massage the scalp regularly with this oil. It is a very good home remedy for preventing hair loss. You can also make this oil with coconut oil, cold infusion method.
Make a paste of fenugreek seeds and water. Apply on the scalp and leave for about half an hour before washing it off. Do this regularly for at least a month to treat hair loss.
Take honey and egg yolk and make a mixture of both. Massage the scalp and hair with this preparation and leave for half an hour before washing.
Take 100 grams each of Goose berry (amla), Sapindus Mucorosai (reetha), and Acacia Concinna (shikakai) and boil them in two liters of water till the liquid remains half in quantity. Use this homemade shampoo to wash your hair. It is a good herbal remedy for hair loss.
Mix Aloe Vera with Triphala. Apply this mixture to hair regularly for 3-6 months. It helps in the growth of new hair.
Boil some dry pieces of Indian gooseberry (Emblica Officinalis or ‘Amla’) in coconut oil. Massage your hair with this preparation. It helps in strengthening hair.
