Eclipta prostrata/Karisalankanni kootu

This herb with its excellent health benefits, can also be cooked and eaten as an accompaniment with rice. In the South of India, it is cooked along with lentils. It is called karisalankanni kootu.


A bunch of the leaves of Eclipta prostrata

Red gram dal 50 grams

Green gram dal 50grams

1 tbsp oil

1 chopped onion

1 chopped tomato

Mustard, cumin, asafoetida and one red chilli for seasoning


Remove the stems and wash and clean the leaves. Cut the into small pieces. Pressure cook red gram dal and dehusked green gram, along with the leaves. Heat oil and add seasoning to it,(mustard, cumin, red chillies, and asafoetida). Add onions and tomatoes and cook till mashed. Add salt and seasoning to the dal and mix well.
