SOLANUM NIGRUM/MANATHAKALI KEERAI

Ingredients


Manathakkali leaves/Solanum nigrum leaves - 2 cups
Tur dal - 1/2 cup
Peeled garlic - 6 cloves
Green chillies - 4
Chopped onion - 1
Chopped tomato - 2
A pinch of turmeric
salt to taste
Oil - 2 tsps
Mustard seeds - 1/2 tsp
Jeera - 1/2 tsp
Asafoetida - a pinch
Red chillies - 2



Method



Clean the leaves and wash them thoroughly. Boil the dal and keep aside. Pour oil in a pan. Add mustard seeds, jeera, red chillies and asafoetida. When the seeds splutter, add garlic and onions and fry till transparent. Add tomatoes, chillies and fry till tomatoes are soft. Add the leaves, turmeric and salt and cook with a little water till done. Mix the cooked dal with the leaves and let it cook for 2 mins. Remove and serve with cooked rice.
